New Fluoride Treatments in Office

Important information regarding your child's dental check-ups. Our office is now using a state of the art fluoride varnish as a part of our standard check-up appointments. The previous fluoride treatments available in dental offices only provided short term benefits for cavity prevention. However, the new Vanish® fluoride varnish we are now using provides cavity protection on your child's teeth for up to six months. Vanish is manufactured by OMNII, a division of 3M.
DIRECTIONS FOR CARE AFTER TREATMENT:
Vanish, the only white fluoride varnish, was used for your fluoride treatment today. Varnish safely provides optimal protection, delivering the highest fluoride concentration possible. To obtain the maximum benefit during the 4-6 hour treatment period, we ask that you follow the recommendations below after you leave our office:
- Do not remove Vanish by brushing or flossing for at least 4-6 hours.
- If possible, wait until tomorrow morning to resume normal oral hygiene.
- Eat a soft food diet during the treatment period.
- Avoid hot drinks and soft drinks during the treatment period.
After application, Vanish may appear white and streaky on the tooth surface (similar to plaque). A thorough brushing and flossing will remove any remaining Vanish.
